It’s Our Choice
and
Earth’s Hope
History has repeatedly shown that fundamental ecosystem functions including biodiversity, soil stability, natural fertility, hydrological regulation and carbon sequestration are the determining factors of whether civilizations survive or fail and whether ecosystems become sustainable or collapse.
In the Loess Plateau we have seen over the past decade an amazing transformation that suggests that it is possible to rehabilitate large-scale damaged ecosystems and regain vital lost ecosystem functions. This represents a paradigm shift in human understanding and behavior and is exactly the knowledge needed today to address many of our most pressing concerns including food security, fresh water, habitat, poverty, income disparity and even climate change.
What will we do with this knowledge? It’s our choice and Earth’s Hope
